This collection features holograms produced before 2000. Most of the collection dates from the mid 1980s to late 1990s.
Many of the holograms in the collection are of the highest-quality and some are historically significant. Others are just fun to look at.
The holograms are grouped according to the material on which they were recorded: silver-halide glass plate, silver-halide film, photopolymer film, dichromate, and embossed films/foils.
Some of the holograms pictured may be owned and/or stored by collectors associated with Vintage Holograms.
In addition to the older holograms, there are a small number of holographic artworks included on this website that were produced since 2016.
There is also a corresponding collection of holo-documentation spanning 1985 - 2000 (mostly product-related) that is available for reference or sale.
I acquired my own collection of display holograms while employed at the world's leading hologram art and giftware distribution businesses (most notably Holos Gallery, Reconnaissance, and AH Prismatic) where I dealt directly with holographers and their production facilities and resold their artworks and holo-products to shops, galleries, and private collectors throughout the world.
My career also included time as an editor / subject-matter-specialist for Ross Books (publisher of the Holography MarketPlace, Shoebox Holography, and Holography Handbook) and Holography News. I also served on the Board of Directors of the Laser Arts Society for Education and Research (publisher of L.A.S.E.R. News).
Throughout these years, I was uniquely positioned to interact with an international group of renowned artists, scientists and businesspersons involved in the field. Being based in the San Francisco Bay area, a hotbed of holographic innovation, I was especially close to the community of local holographers, several of whom are represented on this website.
Since 1985, I have also had the opportunity to make, exhibit and sell my own holographic artworks, most recently in 2020.
