Dichromate refers to the photosensitive material (sandwiched between two plates of sealed glass) used to record these holograms.
Because dichromate holograms are easily viewed, they were used for a wide range of artistic, decorative and promotional applications. Production peaked in the late 1980s when thousands were used as watchfaces and jewelry items.
