Embossing microscopic patterns into thin plastic films and metallic foils became the most cost effective way to manufacture large quantities of holograms.

The technology produced very simple images in the early 1980s. By the end of the century, very complex, full-color, animated, 3D images were being produced.

Many of the embossed holograms in this collection are quite rare and some were produced for their artistic merit.
